Laura Valentini ist Inhaberin des Lehrstuhls für Philosophie und politische Theorie an der LMU München und Gastprofessorin am King's College London. Ihre Arbeit ist in den Bereichen der zeitgenössischen politischen und sozialen Philosophie sowie der Ethik und Rechtsphilosophie angesiedelt. Besondere Forschungsinteressen umfassen: globale Gerechtigkeit, Demokratie, Freiheit, (Menschen-)Rechte, politische Verpflichtung, die Methodik der politischen Theorie und die Beziehung zwischen Moralphilosophie und sozialer Ontologie (z. B. die moralische Bedeutung gesellschaftlich konstruierter Normen, die Natur von „Normative Powers“). Ihr jüngstes Buch Morality and Socially Constructed Norms wurde 2023 von Oxford University Press veröffentlicht.
