Holger Andreas studied philosophy and physics at the universities of Leipzig and St Andrews. He obtained a B.Sc. (Vordiplom) in physics (1996), an M.A. in philosophy and physics (2001), and a Ph.D. in philosophy (2005) at the university of Leipzig. After doing research at the IMISE (Institute for Medical Informatics and Epidemiology, Leipzig), Holger Andreas received a postdoctoral fellowship of the DAAD for a research stay at Stanford University (2007). Thereupon, he worked as an Assistant Professor, first at the university of Bonn (2008) and then at LMU Munich (from 2009 until 2013). He was Junior Researcher in Residence at the Center for Advanced Studies at LMU Munich for the academic term 2011/ 2012, where he completed his postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation, 2012). Since 2014, he is Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan Campus.

Research Interests

Holger Andreas's research interests are in philosophy of science (theoretical terms, structuralist approach, dynamics of scientific theories), logic (nonmonotonic reasoning, conditionals, paraconsistency, applications of modal logic), epistemology (belief revision, epistemic vs. metaphysical notions of truth, model-theoretic argument), cognitive science and philosophy of mind (modularity, computational theory of mind). He has also published on issues of metaphysics such as dispositions. In the history of philosophy his research interests range from Carnap back to Kant and Hegel.
