I finished a Masters degree in mathematics in 2012 (Diplom) and in philosophy in 2010 (M.Phil.) in Munich. I am friendly connected to the MCMP since its foundation in 2010 and decided to start a dissertation project in 2013. On the mathematical and practical side, I am specialised in quantitative finance. Therefore, I also hold a professional position in a consultancy for risk management in the financial sector. My doctoral thesis is funded by the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.
I am mostly interested in philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of science, logic, epistemology and metaphysics. I also do some mathematics once in a while. My philosophical Masters thesis is about the role of the mathematician's informal intutitions in proving. The mathematical Masters thesis is a specific treatment of Mandelbrot's multifractal stochastic processes applied to model risks in the stock market.
Financial mathematics as well as econophysics is a flourishing academic field of science for decades now. It has strong similarities to physics (e.g. the adapted models) but also very special characteristics (e.g. the limited possibilities to design experiments and measurement procedures). Discussions in philosophy of science are often motivated by examples from physics, biology and social sciences. My dissertation project is to further introduce the financial mathematician's perspective to some specific views and problems in the field.
