Thomas studied Philosophy at the University of Zacatecas (UAZ), in Mexico, and Philosophy and Linguistics at the LMU Munich. From September 2011 to January 2015, he was a Doctoral Fellow at the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy (MCMP Munich). Thomas wrote his PhD thesis under the supervision of Ulises Moulines, Hannes Leitgeb and Otávio Bueno, with the title "Theory Change and Structural Realism in Linguistics", which he defended successfully on January 23rd, 2015. Thomas holds a Lehrauftrag (Lectureship) at the LMU / MCMP Munich.
Thomas has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Miami, working there together with Otávio Bueno. He has been an invited speaker at the Institut Wiener Kreis, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Düsseldorf Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science, and the University of Bern, amongst other places. Thomas' research interest is in the philosopy of science, where he works mainly on scientific realism, structural realism and the philosophy of linguistics. He also has a strong interest in formal and informal epistemology, metaphysics, logic, the history of analytic philosophy, the philosophy of biology, the philosophy of economics, political philosophy, ethics, metaphilosophy, formal and scientific philosophy, and astrobiology.
